Daylesford – Notting Hill, London

I learnt a valuable life lesson this weekend. Don’t go to Portobello/Notting Hill hungry on a Saturday. At approximately 2pm yesterday there was a 45 minute queue at the four different places we tried to get into on Westbourne Grove. We whittled it down to two options, me and one friend battled it out at Granger & Co whilst our comrades tried their luck at Daylesford. We lost the battle, and gave up our place at the front of the queue when we got the call to say we had a table at Daylesford. After almost an hour’s walk to get there, we were keen to be seated.

I opted for poached eggs on toast with smoked salmon, spinach and hollondaise:

It was scrumptious. The spinach was seasoned and cooked well, the hollondaise wonderful, eggs runny and salmon delightfully cooked by the eggs.

My friends all had a selection of salads which I was told were good apart from the squash.

We shared a chocolate nemesis cake to reward ourselves for queuing for so long:

It was heaven. We were all smiling off camera like that. Moister then an actual cake, but far denser than a mousse, perhaps akin to a ganache..? Whatever it was, it was superb. The creme fraiche was the perfect accompaniment to de-richify the nemesis.

After lunch we browsed the homeware shop downstairs. They have some great things.

I recommend Daylesford, just be prepared to queue, or go at a random time mid week!
